MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang believes that the reinvestigation of the Senate in the Mamasapano incident proves that President Benigno Aquino III has no direct involvement over the Operation Exodus in Mamasapano.

According to Presidential Communication Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio ‘Sonny’ Coloma Jr., reopening the probe worked out for the best as it showed the former Philippine National Police-Special Action Force Chief Getulio Napeñas’ negligence of duty in the botched operation that left 44 PNP-SAF troopers dead.

“As a witness in the seven hours of investigation yesterday (Wednesday), it has effectively responded and refuted the allegations of Senator Enrile, also with the allegations of Senator Marcos which disclosed the lack of knowledge of Director Napeñas in the true situation of his troops in Mamasapano.”

According to Coloma, in the hearing, it also exposed the disobedience of Napeñas to President Aquino’s order of ensuring coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines over their operation against terrorist Zulkifli Bin Hir alias Marwan in Maguindanao.

He also said, the hearing made a better result for the benefit of the public and for the clearer understanding on what kind of reforms should be undertaken to prevent similar incidents from occurring.

(One of the important lessons in the Mamasapano is the importance of having a strong coordination between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police. With the given scenarios, in my observation, the cooperation between the AFP and PNP was united.)

Malacañang is hopeful that with Senate’s recent investigation of the Mamasapano incident, it can now identify needed amendments to provisions of the law particularly pertaining to the liabilities of officials who are negligent in their duties. (NEL MARIBOJOC / UNTV News)
