QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Department of National Defense Sec. Voltaire Gazmin is now facing a plunder complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman over an anomalous chopper deal.
An employee from the Bureau of Internal Revenue who filed the complaint said, Gazmin and other officials of the department profited from the 1.2-billion-peso deal with the supplier of 21 Huey helicopters in 2013.
The complainant alleged that only 10 out of the supposed 21 helicopter units were delivered to the Philippine Air Force despite the full payment of the contract.
Out of these 10, only two were functioning as others have missing spare parts.
Gazmin and the other officials purportedly procured the said helicopters through anomalous and questionable bidding procedure. (UNTV News)
