The policemen implicated in the gruesome Maguindanao massacre are still under detention despite Quezon City Regional Trial Court’s decision allowing them to post bail.
This is because the policemen, who are mostly rookies, can’t afford the bail worth over 11-million pesos.
Thus, their lawyer is now seeking partial decision of the case.
They are just awaiting the court action on the evidence presented by the prosecution.

“As soon as Judge Reyes issues an order with respect to the formal offer of exhibits, then that will be the time for us to file motion for leave of court to file demurrer to evidence,” explains Atty. Adilberto Golla Jr, lawyer of the accused policemen.
Atty. Golla believes the policemen of the 1508th Provincial Mobile Group who manned the checkpoint where the convoy of Mangudadatu was intercepted are innocent.
This is further affirmed by the testimony of their chief, police inspector Rex Diongon.
Last month, the court approved the discharge of Diongon as the third state witness.
As Atty. Golla explained further, “Diongon mentioned that most probably his men are innocent. Of course, they are just following orders coming from their superior officer. When they’re asked to form a team to conduct checkpoint, that’s what they knew. But with respect to the plan or whatsoever, they don’t have knowledge about it.”
The lawyer also believes that the policemen who are unaware of the plan to kill the convoy of Mangudadatu are now victims of the delayed trial of the case.
Until now, the court is still hearing the bail petition of the principal accused Andal Ampatuan Jr.
This morning, only a single witness was presented for cross-examination.
Thus, what was supposed to be the last hearing on his petition did not happen.
The defense has still two witnesses to present hence, the court has to schedule another hearing on June 22.
