BATANGAS, Philippines — Tanauan City Mayor Thony Halili will not stop exposing individuals allegedly involved in illegal drug trade and other crimes in the city.
This is despite himself facing a number of complaints at the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) because of the so called “Walk of Shame” that he is advocating.
“If the CHR wants to sue me, perhaps they should sue the biggest names first before me. I’m just a small-time mayor,” Mayor Halili said.
It can be recalled that last Monday, Halili paraded about 11 alleged drug users and pushers to embarrass them and warn the public from doing illegal activities.
It was not the first-time that the mayor held a walk of shame. In 2014, he also paraded a market thief, followed by an alleged rapist who was also suspected of trading illegal drugs.
Halili said they summon and conduct weekly meetings with suspected illegal drug users and pushers from each barangay.
“I send letters to suspected drug pushers and users so I could talk to them. Some of them are submissive but others are stubborn. If they’re captured, they go to jail,” he declared.
Halili argued that though his method is radical and opposed by many. His intentions are good as he only aims to eliminate illegal drug operations in his town.
