PCSupt. Wilben Mayor explains that the law orders all government employees, including top ranking officers of the Philippine National Police down to the lowest ranking personnel, to undergo mandatory drug test.

This is in response to the statement of incoming President Rodrigo Duterte signifying his plan to implement mandatory drug testing among all employees of the government as soon as he assume the presidency on July 1.

For his part, PNP Anti-illegal Drugs Group Chief of Staff PSSupt. Leonardo Suan said their office has been enforcing a surprise drug test among its employees once every quarter.

The procedure is important to make sure that none among their ranks are using illegal drugs.

Suan boasted that since the establishment of AIDSOTF, until it was renamed as AIDG, none of their personnel has been tested positive in their quarterly surprise drug tests.

Thus, he is delighted that Duterte ordered such to the entire police organization

“That’s one good program. Actually, that’s one prevention so that no policeman would attempt to use illegal drugs,” Suan said in a statement.

Suan explained that illegal substances stay in the body for only about 24 hours, especially shabu, that’s why it would be better not to announce the schedule of the drug test.

Though they are willing to follow orders from incoming President Duterte, Mayor says they will need enough budget because drug testing is very costly.
