MANILA CITY, Philippines — Manila Police District Station 6 rounded up several individuals during an Oplan Galugad operation, Monday night, coinciding with Oplan Balik Eskuwela.
Twenty-one people were arrested for drinking alcohol in public; four were caught in the act of betting on the illegal video karera while two minors were brought to the station for brawling.
Police have confiscated the bottles of alcohol and video karera machines. The detained individuals will be facing charges of violating corresponding Manila City ordinances.
MPD Station 6 Commander, PSupt. Robert Domingo is optimistic that their operations may produce significant results this time around due to the substantial increase in fines.
“Medyo tinaasan na sa City Ordinance 5555. Dati nagre-range lang ito sa Php 500, pero ngayun nasa Php 10,000 na multa, kaya magandang development ito,” he said.
(Fine for City Ordinance 5555 has been increased. It used to range around Php 500, but now it’s around Php 10,000. This is a welcome development.)
The violators admitted their offenses and promised not to break anymore laws.
“Sa susunod kapag iinom ako sa loob na lang ng bahay,” said one offender. (The next I go drinking, I’ll do it indoors.)
Meanwhile, the two minors who were detained for brawling had been turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development. (UNTV News)
