PASAY CITY, Philippines — For Senator Koko Pimentel, rigging is unlikely possible in the recent polls.

This, following the surfacing of three whistleblowers in Senate alleging manipulation in the transmission of votes from the province of Quezon in favor of the administration candidates.

“That is still a theory. Get them a lawyer and organize their story. Let them submit an affidavit,” said Sen. Pimentel.

When it comes to allegation of fraud, let COMELEC handle it.

Pimentel is the current Chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Reforms and People’s Participation.

He is likewise the chairperson of the Joint Congressional Oversight Committee (JCOC) on Automated Election System.

JCOC was formed by the House and Senate panels. It is tasked to review the glitches that were encountered in the recent polls. But until now, they have not yet scheduled any hearing on the complaints filed by the said whistleblowers.

“I told them, I don’t know who has interviewed with but the numbers don’t add up. Let the numbers add up first before you can get my attention,” Sen. Pimentel explained.

For Sen. Cynthia Villar, if only the election is done through a hybrid system, it would be easier to identify fraudulent acts against it.

Thus, Villar is not in favor of electronic election because complainants don’t have basis for their complaints.

Under the hybrid system which COMELEC Commissioner Gus Lagman has been promoting in the past, only the transmission and canvassing of ballots are automated but the process of voting and tallying of votes are done manually.

“Since it’s electronic you don’t have basis if you want to make a complaint. I’m in favor of hybrid,” Sen. Villar stated.

Villar said the errors of the recent elections can be rectified in order to achieve a much better and orderly election in the future.
