Environmental advocates will be monitoring nine environmental action points that President-elect Rodrigo Duterte promised to act upon.
These are:
1. Biodiversity
2. National land use
3. Mining
4. Food sovereignty and sustainable agriculture
5. Enery transformation
6. Human rights and integrity of creation
7. Climate justice
8. Waste
9. People-centered sustainable development
According to Green Thumb, during the election campaign President-elect Duterte mentioned these 9 points which he promised to prioritize if he wins the presidency.
And now that he is just weeks away to being proclaimed as the next president, the group will be holding him to his promises especially during his first 100 days as the leader of the Republic of Philippines.
“The Green Thumb Coalition will not only be monitoring the implementation and the programs of the incoming President Digong but we will be actively engaging the administration in a collaborative manner to make the real changes in the Philippines particularly in the field of the environment and climate,” said Gerry Arances, Green Thumb convenor.
Mining advocates have also asked the President-elect to review all mining contracts and evaluate all mining projects in the country.
The group said that the livelihood of the people are also affected because of the large scale mining in:
1. Nueva Vizcaya
2. Batangas
3. Marinduque
4. Romblon
5. South Cotabato
6. Zamboanga Peninsula
“We, Alyansa Tigil Mina, are ready to cooperate with the next administration to stop illegal and destructive large scale mining (…) We can provide evidences against illegal mining,” Jaybee Garganera said.
