MANILA, Philippines — For the first time since the election, President-elect Rodrigo Duterte has returned to Manila from Davao City for a meeting with his incoming Cabinet.
The meeting held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC)was also an introduction to the rest of the incoming secretaries of the Duterte administration.
According to Duterte’s newly appointed spokesperson, Ernesto “Ernie” Abella, the gathering was to hear from the various secretaries so that the new administration can establish a more coordinated system, thereby preventing any department from being closed off.
Duterte discussed pressing issues with his appointees in clusters.
Duterte has set another schedule of meeting with his Cabinet here in Manila next week before his inauguration.
The meeting ended with Duterte extending his apologies to his supporters for his decision to hold a simple inauguration at Rizal hall of Malacañang on June 30.
“This imposition will not be fair to Leni as the limited slots would restrict her prerogative to invite more guests and supporters as a good number of the slots are to be allotted for members of Congress, judiciary and to the diplomatic corps,” said incoming communications secretary Martin Andanar.
Andanar said, a separate inauguration would also be good for Vice President-elect Leni Rodrebo so she could accommodate her supporters.
“190 is left for the President-elect himself. Now, if you add to that VP-elect Robredo’s guests, it would not fit. So, it gives justice for the VP to hold her own inauguration for her supporters,” Andanar explained.
