QUEZON CITY, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan 3rd Division Chairperson and Chief Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang released a hold departure order against former vice president Jejomar Binay, his son Junjun Binay and ten others effective today.
The hold departure order released in relation with the charges filed against the Binays particularly the violation of Section 3E of the Anti-graft and Corrupt Practices Act or Republic act 3019, falsification of public documents and malversation.
“Hold departure order or hdo is issued to make effectiveness of the court’s exercise of its jurisdiction over the cases though this has nothing to do with the existence or non-existence of probable cause,” said Atty. Dennis Pulma, executive clerk of court.
The court clarifies that under the hold departure order of an accused, he or she can still travel outside the country if the court permits.
Binays were charged because of allegedly anomalous construction of Makati carpark building worth 2.2 billion pesos from 2007 to 2013.
Aside from Binays, other former employees and officials are also facing the same charges.
Meanwhile, the Binay camp believes their cases in the anti-graft court will be eventually dismissed.
