QUEZON CITY, Philippines — A chief inspector, a senior inspector and 70 other non-commissioned officers with ranks ranging from police officer 1 to senior police officer 4 were among the list of PNP personnel ordered relieved from duty by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) today.
QCPD Chief P/SSupt. Guillermo Eleazar says the move is part of their internal cleansing efforts.
Three of those relieved were due to alleged violations of the Anti-torture Act.
While the 69 others were removed from post because of their suspected links to drug syndicates.
“They were reported for their alleged involment. Meaning, they are receiving drug money,” P/SSupt. Eleazar said.
“We asked all our commanders, the station commanders and other unit commanders to recommend to us the personnel that they want to be relieved particularly those who are performing anti-illegal drugs operation.” he added.
The relieved cops will be transferred to the District Headquarters Support Unit while investigations are on-going.
If found guilty of the accusation, charges will be filed against them and they will be removed from police service.
However, if proven otherwise, they will be given another duty but not to the anti-illegal drug operation units.
“They will be assigned to the units which we believe will be fitted for them.”
As of today, the Quezon City Police already has 140 personnel being investigated for possible involvement in the drug trade industry.
Just last July, QCPD has relieved 88 personnel from station 6 and the District Anti-illegal Drugs Unit because of the same allegations but 17 were already absolved.
Meanwhile, since July 1, more than 6,500 drug suspects have voluntarily surrendered to authorities in Quezon City.
