QUEZON CITY, Philippines — There are about 1.8 million drug users and over 600,000 of them have already surrendered to authorities, according to the Philippine National Police.
722 of the users died during police operations. Authorities are now investigating a total of 1,067 deaths.
One is the case of the parents of a witness that faced the Senate earlier. The parents of Mary Rose Aquino were allegedly killed by policemen in Antipolo, Rizal.
Mary Rose says the police used her parents as assets and were being ordered to recycle illegal drugs.
In line with this, PNP Chief Police Director General Ronald Dela Rosa had relieved from post the police officers mentioned by the witness.
“Ipapa-restrict ko iyong mga tao na iyon. Restrict in Camp or ilalagay sa Crame para ma-imbestigahan,” Dela Rosa said.
(I will restrict those persons. Restrict in Camp or I’ll put them iin Crame for investigation.)
“Not like what we did sa mga nasa listahan na binanggit ni presidente na nilagay sila sa admin holding unit, ipapatawag ko sila today.”
(Not like what we did for those who are on the list mentioned by the president in which they were placed in admin holding unit, i’ll summon them today.)
Meanwhile, the PNP announced that it is ready to present their report on the allegedly extrajudicial killings during the continuation of the senate hearing tomorrow.
The leadership of PNP also assures that they will not condone the police’s allegedly vigilante-style killings.
“The PNP’s stand against extrajudicial killings is uncompromising. The PNP does not and will never condone vigilante killings. I have previously mentioned that these killings are perpetrated by various syndicate groups involved in illegal drugs,” Dela Rosa said. — Aiko Miguel / UNTV News & Rescue
