MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) has released John Paul Solano, a prime suspect in the death of hazing victim Horacio “Atio” Castillo III, after the Department of Justice (DOJ) issued a resolution on Wednesday, ordering his release.
Solano thanked the MPD for treating him properly and offered his condolences once again to the parents of Atio.
“I would also like to extend my deepest condolences to the parents of Atio. Rest assured I will shed light on the stories during the preliminary investigations. I will tell the truth,” he said.
The Aegis Juris Fraternity member reiterated he has no involvement in the death of the UST Law student.
“I will prove my innocence [by] telling the truth,” Solano added.
Now that he’s free, Solano said he wants to see his family first .
The DOJ has set the preliminary investigation of the case on the 9th and 14th of October.
Meanwhile, the Manila police were able to break into the office of the Aegis Juris Fraternity in Laon Laan, Sampaloc, in Manila, where the initiation rite on Castillo is believed to have been conducted.
“We are very hopeful that aside from the object evidence that we gathered, we can get more forensic evidence for this matter,” MPD-PIO Chief P/Supt. Erwin Margarejo said.
“Once we get forensic evidence at the crime scene and it matches for comparison on the body of victim, that’s a big development,” he added.
Among the set of evidence the police target to gather are body fluids, finger print, blood stains, and hair samples, among others, that would help in the investigation into Castillo’s death. – Grace Casin | UNTV News & Rescue
