MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has released its latest figure on homicide cases in the country.
From July 1st of 2016 to the 15th of September 2017, the number of homicide cases reached more than 15,000.
More than 6,000 of the cases have already been resolved, while more than 9,000 are still being investigated.
Of the resolved cases of homicide, 0.75% or about more than 100 drug-related cases are considered case-solved.
While 1.74% of the drug-related cases are considered cleared and are being tried in courts.
According to the PNP, the figures prove the various motives for the killings that happen in the country.
“Some insist that these homicide cases, these killings, they term it as “extra-judicial killings”, are related to the campaign against illegal drugs,” PNP PIO PC/Supt. Dionardo Carlos said.
The PNP claims, many of the homicide cases are related to heated arguments, misunderstandings, personal grudges and even love triangles.
The national police also has responded to the survey released by the Social Weather Stations (SWS), which shows that many Filipinos do not believe that the individuals killed in the government’s war on drugs resisted arrest.
“How can we explain now the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines losing 85 troopers, public servants who died during this police operations and another 200 for PNP officers critically wounded,” Carlos said.
The PNP assured it will not tolerate cops who will be proven to have killed an individual who did not resist arrest. It cited as an example the policemen involved in the killing of minors such as Kian delos Santos, Carl Arnaiz and the 14-year old alias ‘Kulot’. – Mon Jocson | UNTV News & Rescue
