MANILA, Philippines — “Guilty of serious dishonesty relative to his unlawful acquisition of wealth” has been the decision of the Office of the Ombudsman on the dishonesty and grave misconduct complaint filed by former Iloilo Provincial Administrator Manuel Mejorada against Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog in 2015.
According to the Ombudsman, Mayor Mabilog failed to explain how his wealth ballooned, particularly the P8.9 million worth of additional amount he amassed in just a period of one year, from 2012 to 2013.
Aside from dismissal from service order, the Ombudsman also imposed cancellation of civil service eligibility on Mabilog, forfeiture of retirement benefits, perpetual disqualification from holding public office and prohibition from taking civil service examinations.
Meanwhile, the camp of Mabilog is hoping for the reversal of the dismissal order from the Office of the Ombudsman.
According to his lawyer, Atty. Mark Piad, Mabilog plans to appeal the said decision.
“We will just explore or avail whatever legal remedies that we have. We might probably ask for TRO from the court of appeals or we might appeal the decision of the Ombudsman or we might follow petition before the court of appeals,” said the legal counsel.
Meanwhile, when asked about the threats of President Rodrigo Duterte to make Mabilog his next target, the lawyer refused to comment.
“We don’t know what the President meant so we really cannot comment any further on that. Whatever will happen we just lay down to God’s divine intervention. That’s basically what the mayor said last time,” said the lawyer. — Rajel Adora | UNTV News & Rescue
