MARAWI VICTIM: Emma Abdullah hopes to return home in the war-stricken city of Marawi.
The Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) along with the Marawi City government and other agencies are thoroughly preparing to speed up the return or transfer process of internally displaced persons (IDPs) that are still staying in various evacuation centers.
According to the task force’s manager Asec. Felix Castro, Jr. they are now taking up measures to allow the return to Marawi of almost 206 families staying in Iligan City and other places.
“Ang ginagawa natin ngayon is good for 500 families. Ibig sabihin, mayroon pa sa ibang areas na pwedeng ilipat iyon ang susundin natin. Pinapriority lang natin ang Iligan evacuation center,” TFBM manager Asec. Felix Castro.
(What we are currently doing is good for 500 families. It means there are still those in other areas that can be relocated. We are only prioritizing the Iligan evacuation center.)
Meanwhile, the second batch of Kambisitas is set to visit Marawi.
These are the residents in the main battle area who want to see their homes.
Emma Abdullah is excited to see the home they fled from and hopes that they can still salvage their things.
“Ang naisip ko baka mayroon pa, hindi nawala gamit ko at bahay ko, hindi nasira kaya excited ako makita ang lugar namin. Ang pangarap namin na sana makauwi kami sa lugar namin sa Marawi City,” said the evacuee.
(I am thinking if there’s still something left, if my valuables are still there or if my house has not been destroyed. So I am excited to see my town. Our dream is to return to our home in Marawi City.)
But Joint Task Force Ranao (JTFR) commander BGen. Roseller Murillo admitted it is still not totally safe to venture into the main battle area because of remaining improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
“Although tatlong pass ang ginagawa ng ating mga sundalo, mayroon pa ring hindi makikita diyan, sigurado. Kaya nga kung may makita kayo during the inspection during Kambisita, huwag nyo galawin, i-report agad na ho. Available naman ang EOD personnel natin,” said Murillo.
