MANILA, Philippines – A teacher has been accused of molesting a student athlete in the Palarong Pambansa 2018.
The Department of Education (DepEd) assured it will not tolerate such behavior and vowed to implement the full force of the law if the suspect is found guilty of the offense.
During Saturday’s press conference at Quirino Stadium in Bantay, Ilocos Sur, Department of Education Undersecretary Tonisito Umali expressed his disappointment over the incident.
“Imagine the circumstance is almost unbelievable. Napakaraming tao, di ko alam kung ano nasa isip nitong guro na ito,” said Umali.
(There are so many people here, I don’t know what the teacher was thinking.)
“Pag napatunayan yung kaso sa kanya, makakaasa po kayo titingnan din po namin kung ano yung maaaring ginagawa niya o maaaring ginagawa sa kanyang paaralan na pinagtuturuan,”added the official.

According to Usec. Umali, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones has ordered the agency to push through with filing of complaints against the teacher to speed up resolution of the case.
The suspect is facing administrative charges and criminal complaint for acts of lasciviousness.
