Authorities nabbed a motorcycle rider disguised as police at a checkpoint along NAIA road in Pasay City Wednesday.
The suspect, identified as Felix Verona, 35, is actually a tricycle driver and a resident of Velasquez, Tondo in Manila.
Verona, who was wearing a police uniform, was stopped by Pasay City Police personel at the checkpoint at Chapel Road for not wearing a helmet. He was asked to present proper identification but the inspecting authority discovered his ID was fake. Verona later confessed that he has never been a cop.
“Malinaw po na peke ang I.D. niya kasi sa orihinal na PNP ID eh merong middle name ‘yon. Y’ung sa kaniya, inisyal lang, letter C lang…Tsaka yung badge number niya eh malayong-malayo sa edad niya at saka sa serbisyo niya,” PO3 Robinson Alsol, the Pasay police investigator said.
(It is clear that he’s using a fake ID because on an original PNP I.D. the full middle name is printed — his is just an initial letter. And his badge number does not match his age and service.)
When the police further inspected Verona, a four-inch knife was found in his garment.
Verona will face charges for usurpation of authority, illegal use of uniform and insignia for violation of the Omnibus Election Code. — Asher Cadapan Jr.| UNTV News & Rescue
