QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Despite the extreme hot weather, Angat Dam’s water level remains high at 194.3 meters which is 14 meter higher than its required level of 180 meters.
According to the National Water Resources Board (NWRB), Angat Dam’s water reserve is still enough to supply the overall domestic needs of the entire Metro Manila and irrigation in nearby areas in Luzon this dry season.
However, water level in La Mesa Dam is now critical due to increase in demand considering the extreme hot temperature.
“Idagdag mo pa na summer ngayon so ang consumption o ang demand ng regular customer natin ay mataas. Tapos peak siya ng summer wala pa masyadong ulan,” Jeric Sevilla of water concessionaire Manila Water.

Manila Water has reduced water pressure to its clients to prevent supply interruptions. This affects areas on higher grounds such as Marikina, San Mateo and Montalban in Rizal.
To address supply deficiency, Manila Water will request additional allocation from NWRB. This will be in addition to the 4,000 million liters per day that NWRB is supplying to two water concessionaires Maynilad and Manila Water.
Still, the NWRB calls on the public to help conserve water to prevent depletion of supply in the country’s water reservoirs.
“Mayroon ding responsibilidad ang mga kababayan natin na kahit nakahanda tayong magbigay ng karagdagang alokasyon, maganda na maging responsable sa paggamit ng tubig,” Sevillo David, the executive director of NWRB said.
(Even though we are prepared to give additional allocation, the public should also be responsible in their consumption.)
NWRB is expecting the early onset of rainy season, as forecasted by the weather agency PAGASA. This, according to NWRB, will be a big help to replenish the supply in Angat Dam and other major reservoirs. – Mon Jocson / Marje Pelayo | UNTV News & Rescue
