MANILA, Philippines – It’s all systems go for the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday, May 14, for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

Comelec also activated on Friday its command center for the village polls.

According to Comelec Acting Chairman Al Parreño, they are now in the final phase of delivery of election paraphernalia and deployment of police and soldiers.

“We have deployed most of our the materials already, finishing some minor things in deployment. In NCR 3% lang matatapos na siya ngayon. In that case ready na,” Parreño said.

The poll body again reminded the public to arrive at polling precincts as early as possible to avoid long queues as voting will be done manually. Polling precincts will open at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon.

“At the strike of 3 o’clock kung mayroon pa ring voters within the 30 meter radius pwede pa iyong boboto sila,” Teofisto Elnas, the director of Comelec’s Election and Barangay Affairs Department.

Meanwhile, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) assures that security measures are in place to prevent and stop the conduct of election-related practices.

“We call on the PNP to be on the look out for any incident of vote buying and ensure tat culpable parties are arrested and charged,” said Interior Assistant Secretary Jonathan Malaya.

Meanwhile, the National Printing Office together with representatives from Comelec on Friday, May 11, destroyed over one million defective and damaged election ballots.

“We invited the media for transparency so the rest of the country will see the event and this will help build confidence that we have a secured electoral process,” according to Acting Director III of COMELEC Planning Department Maria Victoria Dulcero.

In case of excess ballots, the chairman of the electoral board is obliged to destroy them inside the polling precinct once the election proper is over to make sure that the spare ballots will not be used for election fraud. – Aiko Miguel | UNTV News & Rescue
