Former President Benigno Aquino III

Tarlac City, Philippines – Former President Benigno Aquino III and his sisters Balsy and Pinky were able to finish voting earlier than expected in the barangay elections Monday, May 14.

The former president commended the speedy process as it only took him five minutes to vote.

Aquino compared the experience with the previous elections. In 2010, he had to wait for 4 hours due to a defective PCOs machine and in 2016 National Elections he needed to queue in line for four hours.

“Ngayon limang minuto natapos…laking ginhawa nito,” Aquino said.

(It was over in 5 minutes…such a big relief.)

The former president calls on election candidates to settle conflicts and work together for a better future especially that it is the barangay who acts as bridge in order for the basic services of the government to reach the community and the people.

“Ngayon sana nga pag natapos ito natapos na yung bangayan ng kampanya, magtulungan lahat ng mga tumakbo na iisang barangay para mapaunlad natin ang barangay at mapaunlad ang lipunan ntin,” he concluded.

(Now that the noise of the campaign period has settled down, may all the candidates work together to improve the barangay and the community.) — Bryan Lacanlale | UNTV News & Rescue
