MANILA, Philippines – Court employees call on the public to respect the decision of the magistrates over the quo warranto plea filed against ousted Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.

In a joint statement issued by the Philippine Justices Association (PJA,) Philippine Association of Court Employees, Supreme Court Assembly of Lawyer Employees and the Supreme Court (SC) Employees’ Association, the group insists that is it only the SC who has the sole authority to the interpretation of the Constitution.

“The interpretation and application of the constitution, laws and rules exclusively belong to the Supreme court, not the executive department, not to Congress, not to media, not to the practicing lawyers and law students, not to the clergy and not even to the people,” the statement said signed by Erwin Ocson, President of the Supreme Court Employees Association.

During today’s flag ceremony, most court employees donned red shirts not to protest but to show that they are united and in support of the magistrates who voted to oust Sereno. – UNTV News & Rescue
