PASAY CITY, Philippines – Newly elected Senate President Senator Vicente Sotto III is in favor of Congress’ revival of the death penalty in the country.
However, Sotto clarified that he only prefers capital punishment for high level trafficking cases.
“Pero iyong high level trafficker, nakakulong na, napeperwisyo pa ang mga kabataan at ang bansa natin dahil nakakapag-operate pa…kaya iyon ang pwede,” Sotto said.
(High level traffickers in jail are still able to corrupt our youth and the country because they can still operate…[death penalty] can be applied to them.)
In March 2017 the Lower House of Congress passed the proposed re-institution of death penalty. The Upper Chamber is still on its period of deliberation on the said bill. — Nel Maribojoc. | UNTV News & Rescue
