QUEZON CITY, Philippines – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) revealed that around seven million Filipinos are still without civil registration record.
For this reason, PSA targets to complete the registration and validation of 106 million Filipinos and include them in the agency’s official record also in preparation for the possible implementation of the National ID System in the country.
PSA Undersecretary Lisa Bersales said they consider it a huge challenge to complete the process of registering all Filipinos in and out of the country.
She added that most of those without registration are living in far-flung areas. This is why they are planning to establish additional 40 PSA service outlets across the country by 2020. Aside from this, the agency also plans to digitize its database to include the registry of Filipinos in remote barangays.
PSA calls on all Filipinos to visit the nearest Office of the Civil Registry in their areas to register or verify their information to update their records. The public may also send their civil registration concerns through the agency’s website www.psa.gov.ph. – Aiko Miguel / Marje Pelayo
