The Department of Justice has nullified the orders issued by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) which forfeited the missionary visa of Australian nun, Sister Patricia Anne Fox and directed her to leave the country in thirty days.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra declared in a resolution issued Monday, June 18, that the BI’s forfeiture of Sister Patricia Fox’s visa is “without legal basis” because visa forfeiture is not among the Bureau’s powers.

Guevarra noted however, that Fox’s case falls under visa cancellation — a procedure which is allowed by the law — and has ordered the BI to determine whether the charge and evidence against Fox justify the cancellation of her visa and her deportation.

At present, Fox may continue to enjoy the privileges of her missionary visa until a final resolution of the visa cancellation and deportation proceedings against her is reached. — UNTV News & Rescue
