Violators of city ordinances being detained at a police station
PASAY CITY, Philippines – Personnel of the Southern Police District made rounds Monday night, June 18, in key cities to accost violators of city ordinances.
Authorities apprehended over 600 individuals in the cities of Taguig, Makati, Pasay , Parañaque , Muntinlupa and Las Piñas who were brought to the city’s respective police headquarters.
A total of 162 individuals were caught drinking in public; 98 were shirtless; 287 minors were held for violating the curfew hours; 39 were caught smoking in public areas; 4 were caught urinating in public; 21 were nighttime idlers and one was an illegal fixer.
“Hindi naman por que nakatambay eh huhulihin na. Hindi naman iyon ang utos. Ang utos is, kung may mga nag-uumpukan, i-approach ng magalang at kung maaari pauwiin sila tapos ‘yung may mga na-violate na batas, ‘yun lang ang pwede naming arestuhin,” explained PSInsp. Ricky Culanding, the Commander of the Police Community Precinct in Buendia, Pasay.
(You don’t get arrested just for loitering. That is not the directive. The instruction is to politely approach a group of loiterers and send them home. Only violators of ordinances are being arrested.)
All arrested will be subject to inquest proceedings while the minors will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD.)
