QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde on Tuesday, June 19, clarified that their move to accost night time idlers and ordinance offenders is not a prelude to the implementation of a nationwide martial law.
Albayalde said they have been doing such operation since 2016 under the Oplan Rody or the “rid the streets of drunkards and youth” campaign.
The PNP Chief maintained that they just want to ensure that roads and streets are safe from lawless elements and free from illegal activities.
To clear doubts, Albayalde confirmed that there was no mention of martial law in the recent command conference of the AFP and the PNP.
“Wala as of this time katatapos lang ng aming joint command conference with the AFP. Walang binanggit na kahit konti sa sinasabi ng mga tao o pinangangambahan ng mga tao na magkakaroon ng martial law. Walang wala po,” Albayalde said.
