PASAY CITY, Philippines – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has ordered the closure of five bus terminals in Pasay City due to lack of permits, illegal terminals and violation of the “nose in-nose out” policy.
Among those ordered close were Maria Victoria Transit, St. Jude O Peñafrancia Transport Inc., A. Aranda, Bobis Transit and RMB Transport System. The said bus firms lack important facilities such as comfort rooms, ventilation, chairs and waiting areas as well as friendly ramps for persons with disabilities (PWDs.) The surroundings were also untidy which implied that they did not have proper maintenance or sanitation services.
Meanwhile, the agency was supposed to inspect Ferdinand Bus Terminal but no one in authority was there to assist the inspection.
MMDA and local government personnel were supposed to serve the notice of compliance to the Ferdinand Bus firm to give its owner 72 hours to process business permit and comply with the standards of the agency and the LGU. However, the administrators of the said firms were not in the terminals during the surprise inspection.
Also among those who received a notice of compliance include Smart Bus, Elavil, Ceres, Mark Eves, and Diamond Star Bus companies.
MMDA assured that those ordered close will not be allowed to resume their operations unless they comply with the standards of the MMDA as regards bus terminal operations. – Joan Nano / Marje Pelayo
