MANILA, Philippines – Confusions on class suspensions especially during inclement weather will soon be addressed.
Metro Manila Council of Mayors on Tuesday (August 7) agreed to form a technical working group that would create a policy that defines the guidelines that local government units (LGU) must follow in declaring class suspensions.
According to the group’s chairman Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista, they agreed to come up with a uniformed policy on cancellation of classes.
“Mag-meeting under TWG ang lahat ng local DRRMO officers with CHED, DepEd, Pagasa, Dpwh and OCD para magbuo at magbalangkas ng isang polisiya para sa Metro Manila, para magkaroon ng uniform at tamang basehan ng padedeklara ng walang pasok,” Bautista said.
Meanwhile, the group responded to critics alleging the delays in class cancellations that usually cause outrage from the public.
Mayor Abby Binay claims that she has been receiving threats of bomb plots and assassination because of such delays in announcing class suspension especially during heavy downpours.
It becomes unfair to the mayors,” Mayor Bautista defended.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) stood in defense of the mayors saying situations vary in each locality.
