Lawyer and former congressman, Atty. Glenn Chong of the civil society group, Tanggulang Demokrasya was dismayed at how the Senate hearing on alleged 2016 poll fraud unfolded last Tuesday (August 7).
Chong was invited to the hearing as a resource speaker on the a supposed irregularities in the 2016 elections.
However, he said he was unable to present the evidence he had with him regarding the alleged discrepancies in the transmission of election results.
Chong noted that 459 PCOS machines located in different parts of the country were sending results a day before the 2016 elections on May 9, 2016.
“The question is: sino ang nagpadala ng resulta ng yun, because the machine was already switched off,” Chong said.
On March 6, 2018, Senator Tito Sotto disclosed in his privilege speech that he received information regarding the early transmission of election results.
Chong said that the 459 precincts were capable of generating around 220,000 votes which is significant particularly in relation to the election protest between Vice President Leni Robredo and former senator Bongbong Marcos.
“Ang lamang po ni Leni Robredo against BBM (Marcos) is 263,000. So 220,000 is very material, yun lang po ang masasabi ko. But I’m not saying na, the votes were cheated by one against the other,” he said.
Chong is proposing the implementation of a hybrid voting system in the 2019 mid-term elections to prevent fraud.
Under the proposed system, vote counting would be manual while the transmission of votes will be automated through applications.
“Wala po itong pinagkakaiba sa Smartmatic. Mas mura pa ang sistema. Meron ka nang hawak na ebidensya dahil nabilang at nakita mo yung pagbibilang ng boto,” said Chong. — Rey Pelayo | UNTV News & Rescue
