QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Thousands of families evacuated over the weekend due to massive flooding brought about by the southwest monsoon or habagat.
This prompted Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Oscar Albayalde and National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Guillermo Eleazar to fly over calamity-hit areas on Monday (August 13) following days of non-stop rains.
The two officials, on board the newly-purchased PNP helicopter, conducted aerial inspection over Marikina City where most barangays were affected by the burst in Marikina River.
Albayalde also checked on evacuees in temporary shelters in Marikina City and talked to local officials about other services the PNP may provide for the affected residents.
Hundreds of families remain in evacuation centers although floodwater has started to subside.
