MANILA, Philippines – Malacanang on Thursday said all employees who will report to work on August 21, a Tuesday, will be entitled to a double payment.
August 21 is declared a regular holiday in celebration of the Ninoy Aquino Day.
Consequently, the Palace declared it a special non-working holiday in observance of the Muslim community’s feast of sacrifice or Eid’l Adha.
This means a double holiday falling on the same day.
Therefore, private sector workers are entitled to receive a 200 percent increase in their daily basic pay because a special non-working holiday falls on a regular holiday.
Employees who prefer not to report to work will also get 100 percent of his salary for that day.
As a reminder, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) called on all private sector employers to observe proper pay rules. – Aiko Miguel / Marje Pelayo
