TAGUIG CITY, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte is open to the proposal of naming Mactan-Cebu International Airport after Lapu-Lapu.
The Chief Executive always mentions in his speeches how Lapu-Lapu’s bravery has been seemingly forgotten.
“Magellan was the first invader to set foot here in the Philippines. It was Lapu-Lapu who fought them. Why is he more honored in this country? May Lapu-Lapu Hotel, may isda na lapu-lapu, that’s crazy. Itong si Lapu-Lapu fought for our country, he died. Somehow, they say after that battle he was able to kill the supremo of the expeditionary force,” the President said quoting history.
