Forces of the Philippine National Police clashed anew with suspected members of the New People’s Army in San Mateo, Butuan City at past 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 18.
The alleged rebels attacked Station 5 of Butuan PNP prompting a 10-minute exchange of gunfire.
The Butuan City Mobile Force Battalion quickly sent reinforcement but the rebel forces retreated rapidly.
The PNP only suffered one casualty identified as PO1 Ritchel Golandrina, who was shot in the right leg.
Meanwhile, police will be combing through hospitals and clinics in the city in search of wounded NPA rebels who may have sought treatment after the clash.
Police Regional Office 13 Director Chief Superintendent Gilberto DC Cruz has directed all station commanders in Caraga region to strengthen checkpoints together with the Philippine Army. — Raymond Octobre
