Alleged illegal recruiters, Lenie Rose Limos and Maria Corazon Villanueva are now under the custody of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Anti Transnational Crime Unit (CIDG-ATCU) after several overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) filed complaints against them.
CIDG-ATCU Chief PSupt. Roque Merdegia, Jr. said the two enticed victims with promises of employment in Japan with a salary of about P70,000-P100,000 as a farm worker.
Limos and Villanueva charged unsuspecting recruits as much as P50,000 – P70,000 for the supposed processing of documents.
Things began to unravel for the duo when it became obvious that they were not sending anyone to Japan, much less produce a plane ticket.
“Noong hindi sila nakaalis, walang ticket na naibigay, marami ng alibi. Nag verify na sila [victims] sa POEA, at it turned out na walang kaukulang lisensya itong mga suspek na ito,” said Merdegia.
He added that on top of the exorbitant processing fee, the suspects charged each victim P9,000 as additional fees for pre-departure orientation seminar and visa.
After receiving the complaints, authorities set up an entrapment operation and eventually arrested the suspects in Imus, Cavite Wednesday afternoon.
Limos and Villanueva will be facing illegal recruitment and estafa charges.
Just a year ago,the two were arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation for a similar case, but was released when the victims withdrew the charges after receiving compensation from the suspects. — Lea Ylagan.
