QUEZON CITY, Philippines – House Minority Leader Danilo Suarez will file a complaint against ACTS-OFW Party-list Representative John Bertiz for his actions against an airport security personnel on Saturday, September 29.
“Marami nga yung mga lumalabas na issue that’s precisely the reason why we have to call for a deeper investigation of this issue,” Suarez said.
Bertiz came under fire after he refused to take off his shoes at the final security checkpoint and confronted the security officer, flaunting his ID and even taking the security personnel’s ID.
Bertiz, for his part, said he respects Congress decision and is ready to face the consequences of his actions.
The lawmaker, on Monday (October 1) made a public apology.
“I am very much willing and open whatever investigation…sa nakapanood po ng video, I am really sorry. I shouldn’t have acted that way,” he said.
Bertiz said he has been receiving death threats. He added that his children are also being attacked on social media because of the incident.
” ‘You don’t have the right to live. You don’t represent us. You will go to hell…sa social media’. ‘Kapag nakita kita, papatayin kita at gugulpihin kita,’ mga ganoon po,” he quoted the posts to have said.
Meanwhile, Bertiz denied rumors that he was removed as a member of ACTS-OFW Party-list which he represents.
Bertiz claimed that alleged resolution circulating on social media signed by a certain Feliciano Adorna was actually fake.
He added that Adorna had been removed from the group a long time ago for claiming himself as a congressman and soliciting money from government offices.
Adorna, Bertiz said, is now facing charges of large-scale estafa, usurpation of authority and misrepresentation.
“We were able to get reports also from some congressmen offices that this person is soliciting money and project or what so ever using this letter,” Bertiz said.
Bertiz said he learned his lesson and promised to be more careful of his actions next time as a public official.
He appealed to the public to spare his family from the issue. – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Grace Casin)
