Retired Major General Jovito Palparan has been turned over to the New Bilibid Prison from his detention cell at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.
The transfer took place after the Malolos City Regional Trial Court Branch 15 turned down Palparan’s plea not to be moved to Bilibid.
He was first placed in the reception and diagnostics center to undergo counseling and briefing for two months before being transferred to the maximum security compound.
Bureau of Corrections chief Ronald Dela Rosa explained that this is to assess the kind of rehabilitation program that Palparan will undergo.
Palparan will share a detention cell with 44 other inmates, including his former officers, Colonel Felipe Anotado and Master Sgt Eduardo Osorio, who were also transferred to the state prison.
BuCor chief Dela Rosa assured that no special treatment will be given to Palparan and his convicted officers.
“Promise walang VIP treatment normal lang siya doon. Ordinaryong inmate kung kailangan niya ng matulog sa karton sa karton siya matulog,” he said.
The UNTV News and Rescue team found Palparan at the center eating a chicken stew for lunch. He shared that he was able to take a rest when asked about how he spent the night in his new detention area.
“Mabuti naman, eto nabigla pero okay naman mga kasama ko. Sanay naman ako sa hirap so wala, hindi masyado problema. Ang importante safe ang lugar , nakatulog ako,” Palparan said.
Palparan also reiterated his call for Malolos RTC Judge Alexander Tamayo to undergo a lifestyle check, whom he accuses of being a crook.
“Dapat ang judge na yan patanggal muna ng ating Chief Justice; corrupt ito eh.
Judge Tamayo sentenced Palparan to spend 40 years in jail after he was convicted for the kidnapping and illegal detention of University of the Philippines students Sherlyn Cadapan and Karen Empeño in 2006. — Sherwin Culubong
