Bayan Muna partylist representative Satur Ocampo
MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte supports the filing of charges of kidnapping and trafficking of minors against former Bayan Muna partylist representative Satur Ocampo and 17 others in an incident in Davao del Norte.
But the President leaves it to the police authorities to submit the pieces of evidence against Ocampo and his group.
This was after parents of the victims accused the group of kidnapping.
President Duterte believes that the New People’s Army (NPA) is recruiting and using the Lumads for their operations.
“I support the police and the military. You know an ordinary person — lalo na kung senador ka — you must be aware that you cannot remove children from one community to another without the consent of the parents. That is actually kidnapping. Eh nagreklamo ‘yung mga victims. You heard they were lectured upon by the Lumads. And it’s like controlling the lives of the natives. Iyan ang mahirap sa komunista, ginagamit nila ang Lumad. Kaya ang karamihan ngayon ang namamatay Lumad,” the President said.
Also, the President insists that left-leaning political groups such as Ocampo’s are all communist fronts.
And if the militant groups retaliate by filing counter charges against the police, the President said he will defend his men.
“I will defend my soldiers and my policemen for sure because I think that they are right,” he concluded. – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Rosalie Coz)
