CEBU CITY, Philippines — Five people have been arrested in a raid on Tuesday (December 11) in Barangay Pasil, Cebu City for selling pawikan larang or turtle soup.

An estimated 94.5 kilos of raw turtle meat and 20 kilos of cooked turtle stew were confiscated in the joint operation launched by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, National Bureau of Investigation and Cebu City Prevention Restoration Order Beautification Enhancement Office.

This has prompted the DENR to intensify enforcement of wildlife law in Region 7.

The agency warned the public anew that buying or selling of turtle dishes is prohibited and will be meted out with appropriate sanctions.
