MANILA, Philippines — A man died on the spot after engaging in a gunfight with members of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), who only set out to serve a search warrant.
The encounter happened at around 8:00 pm on Wednesday (December 12) at the suspect’s rented house in May P. Taylo St., Brgy. Pio Del Pilar, Makati City.
The suspect was identified as Rolando Abundo Jr. who is on PNP’s list of high-value targets.
PNP chief Oscar Albayalde said Abundo is a member of a criminal gang that is involved in drug trafficking and gun-for-hire operations. He was facing murder charges.
“Since meron siyang kaso na murder, most probably kung sinu-sino yung nag-hahire sa kanya. It’s not very remote that he is being hired by a big-time or influential people that include unscrupulous politicians, probably candidates, based on information,” said Albayalde.
Seized from the suspect’s residence are high-caliber guns including a M4 and M16 rifle, improvised grenade launcher, a gloc caliber .40, three caliber .38 pistol, 22 round of M203, a hand grenade, and various types of ammunition.
Police also confiscated 10 sachets of suspected shabu allegedly valued at P3 million, and cash believed to have come from selling illegal drugs.
Abundo’s mother and his sibling got involved in the encounter and were brought to the Pasay General Hospital.
Seven individuals were brought to a precinct to undergo an investigation.
Police said that these individuals served as look-outs, spotters, and runners of the suspect.
“Bale kararating ko lang dito galing sa bahay. Pupuntahan ko yung girlfriend ko. Paakyat po ako ng hagdan tapos nagputukan bigla po. Tapos nanduon lang ako sa taas tapos hinold din po ako dito,” said “Leo”.
“’Di ko po alam natutulog po ako sa loob lumabas lang kasama yung anak ko kasi baka kami tamaan ng bala. Hinold na ko ito sa labas,” said “Bastian”.
Albayalde, meanwhile, calls on the public to be vigilant and to immediately report to the police any suspicious person in your area.
“Napakaliit at napakasikip pero binugbog niya ng CCTV yung kanyang bahay. Think kung ikaw neighbor mo itong tao na ito supposed to be magduda ka na… this kind of place,” said the PNP chief. — Gerry Galicia | UNTV News & Rescue
