QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Malls are not the most crowded places at this time of the year as consumers tend to be more practical so they go to flea markets where they can haggle for a much lower price of gift items.
Meanwhile, several shoppers turn to online stores to avoid inconveniences.
But authorities remind shoppers to be aware of their belongings when rushing into the crowd in open markets as pick pockets, snatchers, hold uppers, and thieves are most active this season.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Oscar Albayalde reminds consumers not to bring large sum of money to open markets.
To those who prefer shopping online, the PNP Chief advises consumers to transact with legitimate online sellers to avoid scammers.
Marami tayong na-experience na mga pagnanakaw through the Internet. Huwag tayong magpaloko,” Albayalde said.
For any untoward incidents especially involving scammers and thieves, consumers may report to the nearest police station for immediate action. – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Lea Ylagan)
