ALBAY, Philippines – Incumbent Mayor Carlwyn Baldo discounted politics as the motive behind the killing of Ako Bicol Party list Rep. Rodel Batocabe.
In the wake of Batocabe’s murder, his wife Girtie hinted on social media that her husband’s death was politically motivated.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) also taking politics into consideration as the reason behind the crime.
Baldo took over as mayor in 2017 after the late Mayor Gerry Gaucian succumbed to cancer. He and Cong. Batocabe were the contenders in the mayoralty race in Daraga in 2019.
Mayor Baldo said he will help in the investigation in all his capacity as mayor to solve the case.
“We want to assure the public that everything is being done to solve the killings and to give protection to the innocent that as your mayor and as the chairman of peace and order municipal council that justice will be served to Cong. Batocabe,” he said.
Authorities are now examining the CCTV footages recovered near the crime scene to identify the assailants. – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Mai Bermudez)
