ALBAY, Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief DG Oscar Albayalde personally led the conduct of a case conference on the murder of Ako Bicol Party list Rep. Rrodel Batocabe at Police Regional Office 5 in Camp Simeon Ola, Legaspi City on Wednesday (December 26).
Joining him were PCSupt. Amador Corpus of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG),
Batocabe was killed during a gift-giving event for the elderly in his hometown in Daraga, Albay.
His police aide, SPO1 Orlando Diaz was also shot.
Both men were pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital in Legaspi City after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.
Police are investigating on two possible motives in the incident – politics and the possible retaliation from the New People’s Army (NPA) after Batocabe allegedly refused to give revolutionary taxes to the communist group.
But Batocabe’s kin firmly believes that the crime was politically motivated. – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Lea Ylagan)
