QUEZON CITY, Philippines – The House Committee on Ethics may open an investigation against Iloilo 1st District Rep. Richard Garin for his actions against a police officer.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde confirmed on Thursday (December 27) that the victim, PO3 Federico Macaya is now preparing the charges to be filed against the lawmaker and his father, Guimbal Mayor Oscar Garin.
Macaya was allegedly disarmed, handcuffed, slapped and spat on the face while at gunpoint by Congressman Garin.
House Minority Leader Danilo Suarez said there should receive a formal complaint first before launching a House inquiry on the matter.
“We need a valid complaint maybe from one of the members (of the House). Pwedeng i-file dito pero dapat i-sponsor ng isang member,” Suarez concluded. – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Grace Casin)
