DAVAO ORIENTAL, Philippines ~ A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Davao Oriental at 11:39 a.m. Saturday (December 29).
Based on data gathered by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the center of the quake was recorded 162km south of the municipality of Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental with depth of 49km.
The agency is still verifying the intensity experienced in affected areas of the earthquake.
PHIVOLCS also issued a tsunami advisory on areas that may experience rapid rise or fall of seawater.
