MANILA, Philippines – The busiest maternity ward in the country has welcomed a new baby girl with the coming of the new year at 1:05 a.m. on Tuesday (January 1).
Baby Zairah, the third child of Lenie Bonto, was delivered via normal delivery.
Her husband is a contruction worker and her two elder children are seven and three years old, respectively.
Lenie said all she wanted for Baby Zairah is to grown healthy and become a good person.
“Makapagtapos po siya ng pag-aaral, at lumaki siyang mabait,” the happy mother said.
She hopes that Baby Zairah would be the last.
Senior House Officer Dr. Prima Donna Napa-Lim said Baby Zairah can still be considered a new year baby even if she was born an hour past midnight.
“We usually prepare iyong talaga pong ready vaginally deliver na for the new year but this case right now, almost an hour after. Still normal progress of labor,” said the hospital official.
Sponsors of the hospital traditionally gives gifts to the new year baby.
Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital is known as the busiest maternity ward in the Philippines and also tagged as the country’s ‘baby factory’.
The hospital delivers an estimated 24,000 babies every year or serves to about 60 to 70 birthing mothers every day. – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Rosalie Coz)
