The Philippine National Police – Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) reminds motorists to drive carefully when travelling to the provinces this long weekend vacation.
The HPG noted that number of vehicular accidents spike during long holidays when vehicles on the road are in large volume.
From April to June 2017, the HPG had recorded 8,279 road accidents nationwide.
It dropped by almost 70 percent in 2018 with just 2,705 vehicular accidents.
HPG Spokesperson PLt Col. Richie Claraval said the primary cause of road accidents is human error, such as, miscalculations on overtaking and on turning; overloading; driving under the influence; and texting while driving.
The PNP once again remind motorists to develop the habit of checking BLOWBAGETS, or Battery, Lights, Oil, Water, Brakes, Air, Gas, Engine, Tire, and Self.
Meanwhile, the HPG has also deployed its own personnel to man main thoroughfares as Road Marshalls and the Police Assistance Centers in bus terminals.
“Naglagay din tayo ng mga tent sa mga strategic areas [We have also installed tents in various strategic areas,]” Claraval added.
The official further said that they shall regularly conduct a series of inspections at bus terminals, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency who shall also conduct random drug tests among bus drivers and conductors. – Maris Federez (with reports from Lea Ylagan)
