MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced in an advisory that Kennon Road will be open to two-way traffic for light vehicles during weekends until after the Lenten week.
In anticipation for the influx of tourists in the long holiday, the DPWH Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) said Kennon Road will be open from 6:00 p.m. on Fridays until 6:00 a.m. on Mondays which will begin on April 14.
The agency clarified, however, that only light vehicles weighing 5 tons and below will be allowed to pass through.
The DPWH said that the duration of the road operations would depend on the decision of the Office of the Civil Defense-CAR or the Task Force Kennon Road.
In June 2018, Kennon Road had been closed to traffic due to risks of landslides in Norther Luzon.
It was opened from time to time in consideration of major events in Baguio City such as the Philippine Military Academy Homecoming and Panagbenga Flower Festival where non-residents were invited to attend. – Marje Pelayo
