Over 25,000 policemen deployed for holiday, elections

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed 25,723 policemen and 4,548 Police Assistance Desk around the country to uphold security this summer vacation and upcoming election.

According to PNP Spokesperson Bernard Banac, all Police Assistance Desk are situated in various locations including airports and bus terminals.

“Lahat ng ating Police Assistance Desk and centers ay naroon sa mga bus terminals, airports, seaports at maging sa mga major highways natin. Mayroon pong mga travel assistance points along the highway(All our Police Assistance Desk and centers are located at bus terminals, airports, seaports and even on our major highways. We have travel assistance points along the highway),” he said.

Banac added that they are also distributing leaflets to passengers about the safety tips during the holiday which include:

  • Avoid posting ‘at the moment’ photos on social media.
  • Make sure all doors are locked before leaving the house.
  • Unplug all appliances to avoid fire.
  • Avoid wearing expensive pieces of jewelry in beaches.
  • Make sure your children are wearing identifications in case they get lost.
  • Don’t let your children swim alone.
  • Be aware of the location of the first aid station and PNP Assistance Desk.
  • For travelers, make sure to arrive on time.
  • Keep your tickets, passports and other valuables safe.
  • Avoid wearing expensive pieces of jewelry and travel light.
  • Stay alert.

Banac added that the PNP remains in heightened alert status until the election period ends on June 12.

“Nagkaroon na tayo ng adjustments sa ating deployment sa bahagi ng Mindanao may mga karagdagang deployment doon na pinapatupad ng ating police regional offices (We made adjustments in our deployment in parts of Mindanao. We have additional deployment there),” he said.

Meanwhile, the management of North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) will add 700 tellers this long holiday.

Free towing service will also be given for Class 1 vehicles starting April 17 to 22. The traffic situation in NLEX and SCTEX can be monitored via live streaming in their Facebook page.—Aileen Cerrudo (with reports from Lea Ylagan)
