
Joy Belmonte is the new mayor of Quezon City.
Belmonte was proclaimed the winner of the mayoral race by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday morning. She is the daughter of former Quezon City mayor and House Speaker Sonny Belmonte.
The younger Belmonte garnered 469,480 votes, beating her closest opponent, Bingbong Crisologo Jr. who got 366,215 votes, based on the latest tally of the Quezon City Board of Canvassers.
She served as vice mayor to Herbert Bautista for three terms.
Belmonte’s running mate, Gian Sotto, was also proclaimed as Vice Mayor after getting 382,293 votes. He edged out Jopet Sison who received 343,473 votes.
Sotto previously served as Councilor in Quezon City third district.
